Classic & Luxury Car Insurance for Business: Commercial Cover UAE

Classic & Luxury Car Cover

A 1967 Aston Martin, hired out for a wedding, is on its way to the venue on a quiet Saturday in Dubai. A delivery van reverses into the car at a junction. Nobody is hurt, but the damage is serious: a hand-formed aluminium panel, a rare headlamp assembly and weeks in a specialist workshop.

The owner calls his insurer, expecting a straightforward claim. Then come the questions. Was the car covered for hire use, or only for private use? Was the declared value current? Does the policy allow specialist restoration, or only a standard repair at a general garage?

For businesses that hire out, display or use classic and luxury cars, this is exactly where a standard commercial motor policy can fall short. The right cover is built around the car and the way it earns money, not around a generic fleet template.

Why Standard Commercial Motor Cover Often Falls Short

Most commercial motor policies are designed for vans, delivery vehicles and everyday company cars. Classic and luxury vehicles behave differently in four important ways:

  • Value is not the same as depreciation. A classic can rise in value over time, and a rare luxury model may be almost impossible to replace at the “market value” a basic policy would use.
  • Parts and skills are scarce. Repairs may need specialist craftsmen, imported components or genuine manufacturer parts, which affects both cost and repair time.
  • Use is specific. Chauffeur work, weddings, film shoots and exhibitions each create a different risk profile, and the policy must reflect the use you declare.
  • Storage and security matter. Insurers look closely at where high-value cars are kept overnight and how they are protected.

Who Needs Commercial Classic & Luxury Car Cover?

  • Luxury car rental and chauffeur companies: vehicles driven by many different people, often for tourists and corporate clients.
  • Event, wedding and film hire businesses: cars used for photo shoots, productions and hospitality, sometimes with passengers on board.
  • Collectors and display businesses: private museums, themed venues and brand experience spaces that keep valuable cars on show.
  • Corporate owners: companies that hold prestige or heritage vehicles as executive cars, brand assets or client hospitality.

Personal Policy vs Commercial Policy: Why It Matters

Using a car for business under a policy written for private use is one of the most common and costly mistakes. The difference is easier to see side by side.

Terms vary from insurer to insurer, so always check the policy wording for what is and is not covered.

What to Look for in a Commercial Classic & Luxury Car Policy

1. Agreed value

With agreed value, you and the insurer settle the car’s value up front, usually supported by an independent valuation. If the car is lost or written off, that figure is the basis for the settlement, rather than a market estimate worked out after the loss. Check the policy wording, as standard UAE terms can apply deductions such as depreciation or a pro-rata adjustment for the policy period.

2. Agency or specialist repair

Ask whether repairs are carried out at the authorised dealer or an approved specialist, and whether genuine or period-correct parts are used. Agency repair is typically linked to the age of the vehicle and may need to be agreed when the policy is arranged. For a classic car, the wrong repair can reduce its value as much as the original damage.

3. Declared use and who can drive

Tell your insurer exactly how the car will be used, whether private, hire, chauffeur or events, and who will drive it. Drivers must hold a valid licence for the vehicle category, and conditions on driver age or named drivers can apply.

4. Liability and passenger protection

Hire, chauffeur and event businesses carry passengers and members of the public. Third-party liability under the standard UAE policy responds to injury to passengers and the public, but not to the owner or driver, so ask whether personal accident cover is available as an extension.

5. Geographic scope

If your cars travel to rallies, shows or client events in neighbouring GCC countries, ask whether the policy can be extended and under what terms.

6. Replacement vehicle or loss-of-use options

When a revenue-earning car is off the road for weeks, the cost goes beyond the repair bill. Ask whether any replacement vehicle or loss-of-use benefit is available, and whether it applies to cars used commercially.

Common Mistakes Business Owners Make

  • Under-declaring value. An outdated figure can leave you short after a total loss. Review valuations at least once a year, or after major restoration work.
  • Not declaring the full use of the car. If a policy was bought for storage and occasional drives but the car is now hired out, the insurer needs to know. Use outside what you declared can lead to a rejected claim or recovery of what the insurer has paid.
  • Forgetting modifications. Upgraded engines, custom finishes and aftermarket parts should be disclosed, as they can change both value and risk, and modified vehicles can attract a higher excess.
  • Choosing on price alone. The cheapest premium is rarely the best result when a claim involves a rare vehicle.
  • Skipping the fine print. Exclusions, excesses and driver restrictions can make a big difference at claim time. Additional excesses can apply for young drivers, sports or modified cars and rental vehicles.

What You Will Need to Get a Quote

Having the following ready speeds up the process and helps ensure the cover matches your real exposure:

  • Make, model, year and chassis details for each vehicle
  • A recent independent valuation or purchase documentation
  • Photographs showing the car’s condition, plus any restoration records
  • How the cars are used: hire, events, display or executive use
  • Where the cars are stored and the security arrangements
  • Details of who will drive them, and your claims history

Why Work With an Independent Broker

An independent broker is not tied to a single insurer. That means your requirements can be compared across the market, with attention to value basis, repair arrangements, driver conditions and exclusions rather than premium alone. When a claim happens, you also have an experienced team to guide the process on your behalf.

At Omega Insurance Brokers, we have advised UAE businesses and individuals since 2003, and we help you ask the right questions before you buy, not after you claim.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I insure a classic car for business use under a private policy?

Usually not. Private policies commonly restrict or exclude business use, and the policy is based on the use you declare, so confirm with your insurer or broker before using a car commercially.

Is agreed value available for every car?

It depends on the insurer and the vehicle. Insurers typically ask for a valuation or supporting documents before agreeing a figure.

Can one policy cover several cars?

Often, yes. Businesses with multiple vehicles can ask about a schedule or fleet-style arrangement, subject to the insurer’s terms.

Does the policy cover cars at exhibitions and events?

Some policies can, subject to conditions. Tell your broker in advance how the cars will be used and where they will be driven or displayed, so the use is declared correctly.

Protect the Cars That Power Your Business

Classic and luxury vehicles are more than assets. For many businesses they are the brand itself. Cover built around their value, use and care lets you focus on hiring and showing them, with a clear plan if something goes wrong.
